Barbara Combes (Australia)
Students are only bored when they don’t know what to do.
Parents are the most important when it comes to advocacy. Need to have them on side as they will support you for funding and stand up for you with the Principal.
Change must be inclusive. Whole staff, new mindset, new processes and procedures, new service delivery.
Barbara suggested that anything (worksheets, resource lists etc) created by the teacher librarian should have on it the logo of the school library (including the mission statement), name of the teacher librarian and email address.
Changing perceptions – flexible, adaptable, open to challenge and innovation. We must practise what we preach and model lifelong learning. Start small, be kind to yourself.
